The Sounds of Silence

During one of my sleepless nights last week, I discovered just how much I enjoy the quiet in our neighborhood. You hear helicopters and airplanes on a rare occasion. The most noise we get these nights are from the crickets and cicadas in the trees around the neighborhood. During the day, you can hear the sound of the golfers teeing off across the street at the golf course but, other than that there are a few pesky mockingbirds that chirp at passersby. I love the peacefulness of our neighborhood with all the conveniences of city living.

Our old neighborhood wasn't quite as quiet...we frequently had to close windows or else we woke up to people yelling and screaming in the street. It was quite a busy area.

Apparently, last night a giant tree fell across the street from our apartment. No, no one was hurt. No, no property was damaged. No, no one realized it happened until we went outside this morning and it was just lying there. So, if a tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to hear it, did it make a noise?
