Home Again For Now

Just got back from a great Easter 2011 at home with the 'rents. Now it's time to pack, pack, pack! The Girl mentioned that we were moving soon. We visited the folks who run our current apartment today, and we are well on our way to packing.

It seems like there is so much to do. We have a lot of boxes and packing material, but it's easy to forget how much STUFF everyone has! Hopefully by the weekend, we will be somewhat settled. We'll see how it goes.

Happy Easter!

An Easter Blessing
by J S Bach

Bless this day the joy of life,
The revelation of the flesh,
The paradise of man and wife
Joined to share the gift of bliss.
Bless this day the pain of life,
The passion that redeems the flesh,
The love between a man and wife
Beyond all agony and bliss.

Bless this day the end of life,
The peace within the dying flesh,
The bond between a man and wife
That long outlasts their bit of bliss.

Bless this day the whole of life,
The grace of being more than flesh,
The voyage of a man and wife
Across the mystery of bliss.

We made it to DC!

I have heard horror stories of travelling on I-95 south for Easter. Well we have experienced it first hand. We started out on I-95 and made it to exit 2 in Jersey. From there, we took 295 South to 13 to 40 to 895 to Route 1. About 7.5 hours after the start of our trip we made it to Maryland to celebrate Easter with the hubbies family! We are looking forward to spending some time together.

We have collected a few more boxes and the hubby's parents have agreed to bring their minivan up next weekend to help us move some of the furniture. We are so lucky to have such wonderful families and friends to help us move into our new home!

We we arrive back in NY we will continue packing until we get the keys on Wednesday!

We're Moving!

Yesterday we found out that we were approved to move to a new two bedroom apartment in Fresh Meadows. We are so excited! Our lease is signed and we can begin to move in on the 27th.

Needless to say, we need BOXES! Any suggestions on where to find some? My parents  graciously gave us a bunch of them and my in laws gave us some bubble wrap. Last night we packed four boxes. We are very lucky to until the 15th to move everything out of our current apartment.

Here are some photos our our new place!

Off to Richmond, VA!

This past weekend we hit I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Our friend is in the Air Force and we haven't seen him since he left for basic training many, many weeks ago. Our Airman is the hubby's best friend. His girlfriend is my best friend. So, we had a fantastic weekend all together!
Carolyn and I shared the driving. The way there took about 10 hours and the way home was MUCH shorter (about 7 hours). We are already thinking about our next trip!

Being in "the South" was an interesting experience for us. On more than one occasion we ran into a "wait" at a restaurant, shockingly, the hostess has absolutely no idea how long we would have to wait for a table to become available. At our hotel, people were friendly and greeted us with a "Hi, How ya doin'?" bright and early in the morning.

We drove by our Airman's base. We weren't allowed on base as we got there too late to pick him up so, we weren't allowed to bring him back. He has to follow so many rules right now! I thought that would all end when he was done with basic training! We are eagerly awaiting his return to NY in the middle of May.

We didn't realize that we were down in VA during the 150th Anniversary of Emancipation. There were lots of free activities! We visited the Museum of the Confederacy and found a pocket watch that was given to a man with my maiden name. (One of the fun things about being "Down South" is finding the various connections to my family in museums and such.)
On Sunday, we made it to mass at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart and then went to Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. It was an absolutely beautiful day. I even got a little bit of a sunburn!

Sunday at the Beach

So we got out East yesterday, taking in a sort of spring day on the ocean.

Sunday was spent on the beach as well. Brunch and boardwalk on the Atlantic.

And now? After a good dinner and a little dessert, a lot of "food coma." I'm ready for a nap but it's only 7:30!

Why is It so Hard to Relax?

Do you ever get the feeling that you can never truly relax over a weekend? No matter where you work or what you do for a living, you probably look forward to a few days off at the end of the week. I definitely do, and I like where I work. Problem is, I takes me a while to "come down" from the stress of the work week. On a Saturday, I still wake up at my usual time, ready to get started. It's like my mind knows I have a day off, but my body is used to its morning routine. It sometimes takes a few hours or even a day to calm down and stop worrying about work and what I need to accomplish the next week. By the time I'm completely at ease, it's already Sunday afternoon! Oh well. I guess that's the way life is for right now. We'll see if things are different once we find a new place to call home. At least our building is letting us get out of our lease a little early and get started on the next chapter of married life. But it will be even better once things are settled and a plan is made. Hoping to get outside with the wife tomorrow. It makes it easier to relax and have fun when you have someone to share it with, don't you think?

Holy Cow! Its April!

Where did the time go? March came and went. I met most of my goals for March including making it to the gym and cooking more frequently. Unfortunately, I STILL have not finished my book. During the month of March, I discovered Trader Joe's. I always knew it existed BUT I had never really shopped there. I have been enjoying their sale items. They have come in handy, particularly when looking for some healthy, inexpensive alternatives. Unfortunately, the month of March brought a leak to our happy home in Astoria. We are working on finding a new place. We have the OK from the management company to break our lease because of all of the craziness with the upstairs neighbors. So, NY-ers we are looking for 2+bedrooms, quiet, and dry! The hubby and I are both plugging away at work eagerly awaiting the Easter holiday! Last weekend, we spent the weekend with the hubby's parents in Maryland. We visited Savage Mill and enjoyed Mass at the Franciscan Monastery. It was nice to get away for a little while. It was nice to see flowers blooming!
