"And I still haven't found what I'm looking for..." - Cloth Diapering

As you may or may not know, I started cloth diapering (except for overnight and outings) a few weeks ago. We have several different types of diapers. (Cloth Diaper Developments) At the beginning I was completely overwhelmed by all of the different types of cloth diapers available. Don't let anyone fool you into thinking the only way to cloth diaper is a Gerber prefold and some pins! There is a whole world of cloth diapers out there. Here is a handy list of abbreviations to help you begin to navigate cloth diapers.

The easiest to use BY FAR are the all in ones (AIOs) because they are most like disposables. However, the primary downfall to all of these diapers is the drying time. In comparison to pocket diapers and covers with prefolds/inserts, they take forever.

At the moment, we have one Bumgenius Freetime, three Swaddlebees Simplex AIO OS, and three Bumkins AIO OS. We chose one size diapers because they will fit the little one now through potty training. I just didn't see the point of buying sized diapers that we would have to keep replacing as the little one continued to grow.

The Bumgenius Freetime has the fastest drying time but, I think the over all design is strange. It works well right now since little one is small but, when he gets bigger I'm not sure how absorbent it will be. The other down side to these diapers, while petty,  is that they come in primarily solid colors. (I enjoy prints.) Bumgenius Freetime is now available on Babiesrus.com which means, all those gift cards we received as gifts when Charlie was born can now be used for cloth diapers other than gdiapers or Bumgenius 4.0. We haven't tried to Bumgenius Elementals yet but, we will be trying them in the next few weeks.

The Swaddlebees Simplex AIO OS TAKES FOREVER TO DRY! But, they are super absorbent and come in the most adorable patterns! They are more expensive then the other two types of AIOs that we've tried but, I like them the best.

The Bumkins AIO OS are the cheapest of the three and I feel like they aren't as absorbent as the other two. This was super disappointing because I LOVE their diaper covers. Bumkins has really cute patterns (like Dr. Seuss) but, it just isn't practical to have a minimally absorbent diaper. I will keep trying them but, right now I would gladly trade them for three new diaper covers. The good news is I got them pretty much just for shipping with a Plum District deal. (I have to thank my readers who also bought the deal using my link because I was able to get the deal for free!!)

  2. Thanks for linking this up with Mommy Moments! I am planning on cloth diapering as well. Have you tried Gro-Via? That's the brand I think I'm going to start off with.

    1. We have a Gro-Via AI2...Not my favorite personally because of the weird lining in the cover and the fact that you pretty much have to use their inserts because they use a special snap and there is no way to secure another one in there.

  3. I think that you'll find as your little one gets older that your cloth diapering needs may change as well. We used Bumgenius AIOs (no longer made--the one-sized Freetimes replaced them) for a while with our son, but then he outgrew the absorbancy of them. From then on, Bumgenius 4.0s have been our go-to daytime diaper, because I can customize the absorbancy based on what I put in the pocket. Good luck on continuing to find what works for you!

  6. The Freetimes will still work when Charlie gets bigger! I love the (although tiny) pocket behind the soakers. You can easily lay a trim Hemp Babies doubler under the last soaker for extra absorbency.

btw, followed you from change-diapers.com linkup.
