One Week Old

On May 29th our little man was one week old!

Sleep: He is still sleeping several hours at a time

Feeding: Breast feeding like a champ!

Special talents: He is incredibly strong and tries to hold his head up whenever he is placed on his belly. He makes the cutest little noises. It appears he is even trying to smile (no it has no connection to gas).

Favorite past times: He loves looking around to locate the sounds he hears around him. He loves sleeping in his bassinet and his rock n play. We have started taking walks to help with my recovery. We try to get outside everyday despite the crazy humidity.

Likes: Loves being the stroller!  Rides in the car! Sleeping in his basinet and rock n play. Snuggling.

Dislikes: Diaper changes.

Demeanor: He is incredibly calm and mild mannered. Loves to be held by anyone!

What's up next: We are anxiously waiting to find out if he has an "innie" or an "outie".

39 Weeks and counting....

7 quick takes sm1 Your 7 Quick Takes Toolkit!

1- This week we cancelled the c-section and scheduled the induction for Tuesday, May 22nd.

2- The hubby started his new job on Wednesday. We are still trying to figure out the logistics of his commute.

3- I am officially on maternity leave. Of course, I have found a way to make a schedule for my "free time".

  • Make the hubby lunch
  • Take the hubby to the train
  • Have breakfast
  • Nap or rest until 11am
  • Shower and do something until dinner time
  • Pick up the hubby from the train
  • Have dinner
  • Rest or sleep
4- I am definitely going to have to learn to be more flexible when the little one arrives but, for now having a schedule makes things seem a little more normal.

5- We are so lucky to have so many friends and family members who are excited to meet the baby. I just hope they don't all show up at once.

6- Our pediatrician and OB both emailed to let me know that we should be wary of having people who have traveled out of the country near the baby because they could be carriers of various illnesses. Technically, they want us to wait until after the baby has had two month vaccines before allowing "travellers" near the little one. (Keep in mind my brother lives in Italy and my in-laws are traveling to Guatemala.)

7- I feel like we are as ready as we can be for the little ones arrival. It will be so nice to actually see him rather than just on the sonograms.

Tuesday is the big day (assuming he doesn't make an appearance earlier)! Keep us in your prayers!

38 Weeks 3 Days!

This week was my last week at work. It certainly will be strange on Monday when I don't have to go anywhere. Hopefully the little one will arrive shortly so, I'll have something to occupy my time. The hubby also finished his job today and will be moving on to his new job on Wednesday. I can't wait to have some time together! We never have vacation at the same time.

Last night we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants with friends from work. It will be strange not seeing them everyday. One of my friends made the hubby and the baby matching koala hats. I can't wait to see them wearing them. It will be so cute!

We rang in 38 weeks with additional testing on Tuesday night in the hospital. The baby decided to take a nap when the doctor wanted to see him move so they sent us to the hospital until he woke up and showed everyone just how happy he is. Generally speaking he is a very active baby except for about three hours at night when I guess "he gets all of his rest". The doctor kindly pointed out that our baby must be very stubborn because I was given a Coke with caffeine and a black and white cookie to wake the baby up and he wouldn't budge. Finally after 2 apple juices, an orange juice, and a ginger ale our little one decided it was time to show off. So, we headed home. I took Wednesday off but, the hubby went to work.

On Thursday, my middle school students threw us a baby shower. They were so sweet. They decorated the blackboard and made cards and a signs. They all chipped in for several gifts, and gift card. I was so surprised! I know one of my coworkers took some photos so hopefully I get some copies. I am certainly going to miss my little ones at work. But, soon we'll have a little one of our own!

37 weeks 5 days...

This is an update just for our loyal reader who reminded me that I didn't post on Friday as I usually do. (Sorry dear!)

Tuesday brought the usual doctor's appointment only this time our little one decided to flip around. As of Friday morning he is breech. So, our doctor said if he doesn't flip around by 40 weeks I'll have to have a c-section. However, our little one is 6lbs 3oz and happy as clam. According to the sonographer, he has a full head of hair! The hubby couldn't be happier about the little one's hair. Friday was the last hospital sonogram before our little one's arrival.

Next trip to the hospital = game time!

Saturday was our last formal outing without our little one. One of my coworkers had a Communion party for her son at a catering hall in Howard Beach. It was fun to get dressed up and go out. I think the most entertaining part for me was wearing the dress I wore for our engagement party. I am so grateful for stretchy fabric!

I decided that this coming Friday would be my last day at work. I initially thought I would work right up until the 18th but, the hubby's last day at his job is the 11th and I REALLY don't want to have to commute by myself. (I wouldn't be able to take the HOV lane and therefore it would increase my commute in the mornings by at least 30 min!)

On Friday, I met with the leave replacement and it seems like she is ready to go. She will be around the building this coming week to proctor AP exams so, she will get to know the lay of the land a little better. She is the parent of a former student and has taught math in middle school for about 25 years. This will be her first experience with high school kids.

My students are so concerned that she will "mess with my stuff" and "be all up in my space" but, as I am trying to tell them. It is O.K. and I gave her permission to be there. She is "doing me a favor" and they should treat her nicely. We'll see what happens...
